Test-firing my Noyron TKL-5 thruster

2 weeks ago, we hot fired the 20,000 horsepower thruster, which was designed using the computational model I wrote, Noyron RP. It’s the first rocket engine designed by a computational AI, and the first liquid fuel rocket engine to be designed in the United Arab Emirates. It took less than two weeks from final spec to hand over to manufacturing at AMCM. We literally decided last minute to change the propellants from nitrous oxide/isopropanal, a very “safe” choice, to Kerosene and cryogenic Liquid Oxygen, a much more demanding combination.

Sam Davies at TCT Magazine wrote a wonderful account of the day. Reading it, made me relive every minute. Check it out here.
